What is Business Process Management?
The definition of Business Process Management (BPM) varies from industry to industry. At SAA, we define BPM as the analysis of a process and the application of technology to streamline and improve that process, either internally within the organisation or via a business-to-business trading relationship.

Integration of internal and external transaction exchanges and collaborative processes can be managed using Business Process Management techniques.

Improved Visibility and Control
Business Process Management offers benefits to an enterprise by improving the visibility and control of your operations and processes. This control results in a reduction of duplication and elimination of unnecessary operational costs, leading to a more efficient enterprise and increased profits. However, surveys have shown that BPM will only create efficiency if utilised selectively. If it is used to manage all processes, it can become counter-productive and cumbersome and detract from the core objective of adding value by improving visibility and control. Therefore, the REIMS BPM system offers the benefits of a combined human and systems workflow and interoperates selectively with other control and management systems, leading to practical efficiencies so that a real return on investment and tangible business benefits can be achieved.

REIMS OPS

REIMS Open Process Server (OPS)
SAA has developed REIMS Open Process Server (OPS) as a BPM technology solution that acts as a framework of applications that effectively tracks and orchestrates business processes. REIMS OPS automatically manages processes, allows manual intervention and generates transactions in multiple related systems. REIMS OPS also supports straight-through processing without the need for human intervention. Whilst using the BPML (Business Process Modelling Language) standard to facilitate a standards-based approach, REIMS OPS has a J2EE interface and provides Web Services support so that the latest technologies can be supported.

Multiple Challenges
The pragmatic nature of REIMS OPS addresses multiple challenges:

  • Activities within a business process can involve multiple parties and applications must be coordinated
  • The exchange of messages between parties needs to be correlated
  • The data content of the message needs to be manipulated and transformed between partner interactions
  • Processes must be automated as much as possible but provide consistent exception handling with human intervention if required.

Collaboration and Process Synchronisation

Business Process Management
If your requirement for exchange is collaboration or process synchronisation, there is a need to define and control the systems for the operational (human) interactions of the process. In addition to supporting these requirements, REIMS OPS is an advanced, standards-based Business Process Management server.

In order to augment interoperability with collaborative capability, REIMS OPS facilitates the entry of business rules to control the processing of documents in an intelligent way. The process can be internal to the organisation or include a mixture of internal and external processes as defined within REIMS OPS.
